“The principle is competing against yourself. It's about self-improvement, about being better than you were the day before.“
Steve Young

Active Isolated Stretching: The Mattes Method is a method of myofascial release that promotes functional and physiological restoration of muscles, tendons, joints, ligaments, and vertebrae. It was developed by world renowed therapist Aaron Mattes through his 40+ years of experience in functional anatomy and kinesiology.

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) uses the principle of reciprocal inhibition to optimize the stretch of isolated muscles without activating a protective myotatic reflex contraction. By holding each stretch for no longer than 2 seconds, AIS promotes full range of motion and flexibility without activating antagonistic muscle group contraction.

The stretches in AIS are progressive, gradually increasing range of motion with each repetiton, which is held for only 2 seconds at a time. Each stretch is performed in specific manner and held in specific positions for maximum release of specific myofascial tissues.

Benefits of Stretching

  • Optimize muscle and tendon range of motion up to 1.6 times resting lengths.
  • Reduce risk of injuries.
  • Rehabilitate injuries.
  • Facilitate the removal of metabolic waste.
  • Facilitate the flow of lymphatic fluid.
  • Reduce postural tightness due to aging and lifestyle.
  • Improve preparation for athletic activity.
  • Enhance athletic conditioning.
  • Maximize athletic performance.

Our clients benefit from AIS through their training at The Red Pit. If you are interested in scheduling an AIS session please vist www.ANewBody.MassageTherapy.com
