CROSS TRAINING

Cross Training incorporates training practices from various disciplines in order to develop a broad and comprehensive fitness that supports efficient physical performance across a wide range of activities.  This type of training effectively addresses the needs of the human body and mind.   

Training in any discipline is hard.  It requires a great deal of commitment.  Cross Training has a sport-feel to it.  It is fun!  Its’ diverse and unpredictable nature challenges and excites, thus avoiding the boredom and burnout that results from stagnant routines.  Cross Training rewards the trainee with a complex set of skills and as a result trainees experience increased self awareness and self confidence.  Training, as hard as it may be, becomes playtime and a journey of self discovery.  This is crucial because it keeps the trainee motivated, enjoying the journey rather than dreading it.   

Physically, a major benefit of Cross Training is its influence in the prevention of injuries.  Because of the varied stimulus of Cross Training, the body is well tuned and thus better prepared to endure the diverse demands of life, be it in the house, in the office, in the court, or in all three.  Whether through sports practice or daily life the body moves in various directions at various speeds, therefore it should be trained in the same manner.  Because every human movement originates in the core Cross Training is also core training.  By training the core with various movements and the heart at various speeds Cross Training delivers a complete fitness that optimizes physical performance in every human endeavor.  

   
CROSS TRAINING at THE RED PIT 
 

 At The Red Pit we cross train through a vast array of methods chosen for their efficiency and efficacy.  We train in Calisthenics, Plyometrics, Gymnastics, Weightlifting, Olympic Weightlifting, Kettlebell Training, Medicine Ball Training, and a slew of other practices.  We train a lot of bodyweight exercises as well as a lot of weighted exercises.  The only machines we use are a Concept 2 Rower, a Versaclimber, and a Schwinn AirDyne.  We also utilize unorthodox tools and exercises to supplement and spice up our training while remaining true to the fundamentals, and by doing so we put the fun back in fundamentals.  We further enrich our bodyweight training by performing movements from distinct disciplines such as Ginastica Natural, Yoga, and Martial Arts.
